So why is it that I'll pay for a gym membership but I won't walk up two flights of stairs to my office? Seems kinda cheeky to make the planet expend the energy to haul an entire elevator plus me up to the third floor when I can get there perfectly well under my own power. Ditto with regard to the electric can opener and electric toothbrush. And I've totally never understood the concept of an electric knife. What's next? An electric drinking straw?
Today's front yard critter count:
Raccoons: 5 (Crabby Mama and the 4 teenagers)
Deer: 0
Daffodils: Almost blooming
Squirrels: Increasingly vocal out in the woods.
Sky and I just watched Homeward Bound for the about fifth time; it never gets old. We thought of you, the ultimate animal-lover.
ReplyDeleteNow for taking the stairs instead of the elevator -- the stairway is too boring! It needs to be lined with photography from you and Suzanne!
The electric toothbrush is better for your teeth. My dentist always comments that there is a noticable difference between manual and electric.
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest, I don't use them, they take up too much counter space....but don't tell my Mother in law that, since she purchased an electric knife for us, and we sent it to Goodwill after never using it.
You're right that there are benefits to electric toothbrushes. What's good is that you've weighed the benefits (better health) against the costs (electricity usage) and concluded that the benefits outweigh the costs. Some technology is totally great. I just worry that as a society we skip the analysis step and hop on the new technology bandwagon without really thinking about it. And I love your Goodwill story -- I would bet that Goodwill gets a ton of electric knives....
